JAPAN / The Tokyo champion is from Marseille

The 22nd Tokyo Championship took place last weekend.
It is a rather popular event, since it designates the best fighters in the Japanese capital.
All the finest chanbarakas in Tokyo were there, each district having its own clubs.
All weapon categories were available, with contestants being allowed to compete in up to five of them.
Tabuchi Sensei, organizer of this tournament, has succefully added the "Goshindo no Kata" and "Iai Choken" categories, which is a pleasant surprise.
It is also worth noting that in the Emonojou category, a Naginata can be used like in the eponymous armored martial art, with all the basic cuts being allowed.

For frenchman Olivier Casta, who has been practicing in Japan for 7 months now, this was the last opportunity to fight for his club (Goshinkan), before his return to France.

Here are his results :

Gold medal in the team competition (Gohinkan Shibuya)
Gold medal in Choken Morote
Bronze medal in Choken Free
Bronze medal in Kihon Dosa

This was a definitely positive experience for his club and him, since they are bringing back the flag and the Tokyo cup.
Uekusa Sensei's club (Goshinkan Adachi) had won last year.

Olivier's teammate, Ryu, is commandable for his silver medal in the Kodachi category. With a large number of rather skilled contestants, is is quite an honorable achievement.
